💡 Today's US market in three lines
① Today's three stocks: AMD · Intel · DigitalOcean — two chipmakers that led the day's semiconductor surge and a cloud provider that just locked in the financing for its AI build-out.
② On September 21, the S&P 500 closed +1.49% at 7,764.70 and the Nasdaq jumped +2.26% to a record 27,122.09, with 95 of the 129 ETFs in our universe finishing higher and 7 of the 11 sector SPDRs in the green.
③ Semiconductors rose +4.93% as AMD crossed a $1 trillion market value, while oil gave back -3.68% on hopes of renewed US–Iran talks and dragged energy producers down with it.
Today's Sector Relative Strength (RS)

- Monday undid most of last week's anxiety in a single session. Crude slipped back below $100 a barrel on reports that Washington and Tehran could resume diplomatic talks, the 10-year Treasury yield eased from 5.00% to 4.96%, and the money that had been hiding in energy went straight back into chips. The Nasdaq closed at its first record since June.
- The S&P 500 closed +1.49% at 7,764.70, the Nasdaq +2.26% at 27,122.09, and the Dow +0.71% at 52,048.83. Growth crushed value — the Russell 1000 Growth fund (IWF) rose +2.43% against +0.70% for the Russell 1000 Value fund (IWD), and the Nasdaq-100 fund (QQQ) added +2.77%. The equal-weight S&P 500 (RSP) managed only +0.18% and small caps (IWM) +0.52%. That gap matters. The index gained eight times as much as the average stock, so this was a mega-cap rally first and a broad one second.
- Breadth still leaned positive: 95 of the 129 funds in our universe closed higher and 34 closed lower. Among the eleven sector SPDRs, communication services (+3.56%) and technology (+2.77%) led, while energy (-2.88%), utilities (-1.07%), consumer staples (-1.06%), and materials (-0.56%) fell. Those four losers share a trait. Each is where investors parked money while chips were falling, and each lost its bid the moment chips recovered.
- Two catalysts fed the chip move. Meta rose +11.34% after its new MUSE AI agent reached the top of the App Store, which lifted every company that sells the processors those agents run on. And Thursday's White House dinner for President Xi Jinping is set to include the chief executives of Nvidia and OpenAI, which raised hopes for AI cooperation between the two countries. Bitcoin added its own risk signal, trading above $86,000 for the first time in eight months.
Today's Leading Sectors TOP 5
- Basis: top 5 by 1-month RS rank on the 'Sector RS (US)' sheet — 129-ETF universe, September 21, 2026. Daily and monthly moves are measured from Yahoo closing prices. Trend columns compare price to its 1-month, 1-quarter, and 1-year moving averages.
| ETF | 1-Day | RS Rank 1M | Short-Term | Mid-Term | Long-Term |
| Global X Blockchain (BKCH) | +3.20% | 100 | 🔺 | 🔺 | 🔺 |
| VanEck Digital Transformation (DAPP) | +2.49% | 99 | 🔺 | 🔺 | 🔺 |
| Global X Genomics & Biotechnology (GNOM) | +1.82% | 98 | 🔺 | 🔺 | 🔺 |
| United States Oil Fund (USO) | -3.68% | 97 | 🔺 | 🔺 | 🔺 |
| Roundhill Ball Metaverse (METV) | +4.17% | 96 | 🔺 | 🔺 | 🔺 |
- Blockchain took the top rank from oil. BKCH now sits at 100 on a month of +14.54%, and oil slipped to fourth after a -3.68% session. Onchain economy (NODE) ties the metaverse fund at 96 and just misses the table. Every fund here still trades above all three moving averages, oil included, so Monday's drop dented the oil trend without breaking it.
Why They're Strong — Sector Issues

· Blockchain and digital assets (BKCH · DAPP · NODE) — Blockchain equities rose +3.20%, digital transformation +2.49%, and onchain economy +3.23%. Bitcoin cleared $86,000 even though last week's Senate vote on the Clarity Act failed; the market simply stopped pricing that failure. Strategy added +9.47% after disclosing a fresh $57.4 million bitcoin purchase. The blockchain fund has gained +8.95% in five sessions, and it now leads the table on a regulatory story that has survived two opposite headlines in one week.

· Oil (USO) — The fund fell -3.68% as crude slipped under $100 on the prospect of US–Iran talks. Exxon Mobil dropped -3.20% and Chevron -2.79%. Oil still holds rank 97 because a month of +10.12% cannot be erased in one day. The warning sign sits one level down. Exploration and production funds (XOP, IEO) fell more than 3% and rank lower than the crude fund itself, which is what happens when equity investors stop believing the price will last.
1-Month RS Trend

- The 45-day chart tracks semiconductors, AI chips, cybersecurity, energy, and sports betting. Semiconductors (SOXX) climbed from 22 at the start of the window to 88 on Monday, after bottoming at 2 in early August. The AI chip and quantum fund (CHPX) made a similar climb from 19 to 94. Cybersecurity (CIBR) finished at 97, recovering from an early-September low of 19. On the way down, the energy SPDR (XLE) ended at 51 after peaking at 97 in late July, and sports betting (BETZ) fell to 9 from a September high of 83.
RS Breakdown Warnings (big 5-day drops)
· Sports betting (BETZ) lost -71 points in five trading days, the steepest fall among funds whose sheet rank confirms the move. Pharmaceuticals (XPH) dropped -43 points, food and beverage (PBJ) -41, the energy SPDR (XLE) -39, and oil and gas exploration (XOP) -38.
· These come from two sources. Betting keeps losing share to prediction markets, a story that has run for weeks. Energy, food, and pharma look like last week's defensive trade unwinding: those funds held up while chips fell, and they are now funding the chip rebound.
RS Rebound Signals (sharp bounces off the bottom)
· Fabless semiconductors (SMHX) rebounded +77 points in five sessions, from 14 to 91. SOXX gained +75 points, generative AI (CHAT) +71, AI chips (CHPX) +66, and VanEck's semiconductor fund (SMH) +63.
· Every name on this list is a chip or AI fund. SOXX has returned +12.45% in five sessions, and the rebound now includes design, manufacturing, and the software that runs on them. A recovery this broad inside one industry usually outlasts a single-stock rally.
Today's Top Rising Sectors TOP 5 (by 1-day %)
- Basis: top 5 by September 21 closing move — 95 of 129 rose on the day. RS ranks from the 'Sector RS (US)' sheet.
| ETF | 1-Day | RS Rank 1M | Short-Term | Mid-Term | Long-Term |
| Roundhill Meme Stock (MEME) | +4.97% | 39 | 🔺 | 🔺 | 🔺 |
| VanEck Fabless Semiconductor (SMHX) | +4.93% | 75 | 🔺 | 🔺 | 🔺 |
| iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) | +4.93% | 69 | 🔺 | 🔺 | 🔺 |
| Global X AI Semiconductor & Quantum (CHPX) | +4.60% | 83 | 🔺 | 🔺 | 🔺 |
| Roundhill Generative AI & Technology (CHAT) | +4.20% | 61 | 🔺 | 🔺 | 🔺 |
- Four of the five are chips or AI, and the fifth is the retail basket that follows them. None of the five holds a 1-month RS rank above 83, which tells you where this money came from. It moved into groups that were near the bottom of the table a week ago. The metaverse fund (+4.17%) and cloud (CLOU, +3.99%) finished just behind.
Why They Rose — Sector Issues

· Semiconductors (SOXX · SMHX · CHPX · SMH) — Chips gained +4.93%, fabless +4.93%, AI chips +4.60%, and VanEck's fund +4.02%. Arm led the large caps at +17.16%, Intel added +12.14%, AMD +9.95%, and Qualcomm +9.29%. Nvidia lagged at +2.30% and Micron at +2.77%, so this was a rotation toward CPUs and the designs around them rather than toward memory or GPUs. That pattern points to agentic AI, which leans on general-purpose server processors more than earlier models did.

· Generative AI and memes (CHAT · MEME) — Generative AI rose +4.20% on a portfolio led by Nvidia, Alphabet, SK Hynix, and Microsoft, with AMD at about 3% of the fund. The day's headline product came from Meta, but the fund's gain came from the chipmakers that supply that kind of product. The meme basket added +4.97% on the same momentum. Its 1-month RS rank of 39 shows how far it had fallen before Monday. When the most speculative basket in the universe tops the daily list, risk appetite has returned, but it says little about staying power.
Leading Sectors: Semiconductors, Blockchain, Cybersecurity
- ① Monday was a relief rally with a clear mechanism. Oil fell, yields eased, and the groups that had been hurt by both got bought back. The equal-weight index rose only +0.18%, though. The relief reached the largest companies first, and most of the market has not yet joined in.
- ② The RS table now holds three leaderships at once. Blockchain funds rank 100, 99, and 96. Cybersecurity sits at 94 for BUG and 90 for CIBR on a month of +14.55% and +10.32%. Chips are the newest arrival, with SOXX at 69 and climbing fast. Oil has dropped to fourth. If crude stays under $100, the oil leadership that defined August is the one most likely to leave the table next.
- ③ Utilities (-1.07%, rank 17) and staples (-1.06%) fell on a day when yields dropped, which is the opposite of how they usually trade. That tells you their earlier strength was a hiding place and had little to do with rates. With chips recovering, they are the likeliest source of funds for the next leg.
- ④ The last report covered the September 18 close. Its three picks, measured from that close to Monday: Coinbase +3.50%, MARA Holdings +0.30%, and Semtech -4.12%. The S&P 500 returned +1.49% over the same session, so Coinbase beat the index while MARA and Semtech lagged it. Semtech gave back part of a month-long run of +42% even as the rest of the chip sector surged. Recorded as is.
Today's Three Stocks — AMD · Intel · DigitalOcean Stock Forecast
- Selection: from the 1,146 stocks held by the universe's ETFs — RS 1D≥60 & 5D≥75 & 1M≥85, with all three moving averages aligned (▲▲▲)
AMD (AMD) — 1-Month RS 99: The Newest Trillion-Dollar Chipmaker

| RS 1D | RS 5D | RS 1M | 1M Return | Held By |
| 99 | 99 | 99 | +31.1% | iShares Semiconductor · VanEck Fabless Semiconductor · VanEck Semiconductor |
- Up +9.95% to $615.52, a record close and the first time AMD's market value has passed $1 trillion. The stock has gained +24.7% over five sessions. The earnings back the move. Second-quarter revenue rose 50% from a year earlier to $11.54 billion, net income more than doubled to $2.30 billion, and diluted earnings reached $1.38 per share against $0.54. Data center revenue, which grew about 57% to $5.78 billion, drives the business now. Monday's catalyst fits it closely. Agentic AI runs heavily on server CPUs, and AMD sells both the CPUs and the accelerators. The AMD stock forecast depends on whether that data center growth rate holds into the third quarter now that the company sits in the trillion-dollar tier.
Intel (INTC) — 1-Month RS 99: A Turnaround Priced Ahead of the Numbers

| RS 1D | RS 5D | RS 1M | 1M Return | Held By |
| 99 | 100 | 99 | +32.2% | iShares Semiconductor · VanEck Semiconductor · Global X AI Semiconductor & Quantum |
- Up +12.14% to $121.78, and +25.3% over five sessions. Two things are driving it. Intel is a server CPU maker, so it gained from the same agentic AI story as AMD. It has also been in talks since last Wednesday about a partnership with SK Hynix to make memory chips at its delayed Ohio complex, although SK Hynix says nothing has been finalized. The fundamentals are mixed. Second-quarter revenue rose 25% to $16.13 billion and gross profit nearly doubled to $6.51 billion, yet Intel reported a GAAP net loss of $11.03 billion, or $2.16 per share. The Intel stock forecast rests on converting a rumored foundry customer into a signed one, because the current price already assumes the Ohio fab gets filled.
DigitalOcean (DOCN) — 1-Month RS 98: Financing the AI Cloud for Smaller Customers

| RS 1D | RS 5D | RS 1M | 1M Return | Held By |
| 99 | 99 | 98 | +27.8% | Global X Cloud Computing · WisdomTree Cloud Computing |
- Up +12.31% to $146.16, the one pick here that is not a chipmaker. DigitalOcean rents cloud computing to developers and smaller businesses, and it has just lined up a $725 million equipment financing facility, with a $300 million accordion option, to buy GPU and CPU capacity for its AI cloud through 2030. It reaffirmed its 2026 and 2027 guidance at the same time, and Truist started coverage with a Buy rating and a $175 target. Second-quarter revenue rose 29% from a year earlier to $281.2 million. Net income slipped to $35.4 million from $37.0 million, so the growth is not yet reaching the bottom line. The DigitalOcean stock forecast depends on whether the new capacity fills with paying AI workloads fast enough to cover its financing cost.
AMD · Intel · DigitalOcean Stock Forecast Checkpoints
· AMD stock forecast — At $1 trillion, the stock prices in continued data center strength. Watch whether data center revenue keeps growing above 50% a year. A slower rate would make this valuation hard to defend.
· Intel stock forecast — Five sessions added a quarter to the share price on talks that are not yet a deal. Watch whether the SK Hynix partnership is formally announced. Without it, the Ohio story goes back to being a cost.
· DigitalOcean stock forecast — The financing adds capacity, and capacity only pays if it gets rented. Watch whether AI revenue shows up as a growing share of the next quarter's sales. That is the test of the $725 million bet.
What to Watch on Next Week's Calendar
- US–China summit at the White House, Thursday September 24. President Xi Jinping's visit puts AI development, AI security, semiconductors, and rare earths on the table, and AI industry leaders are expected at the dinner. Monday's chip rally was partly a bet on this meeting. A concrete easing of chip export rules would validate the +12.45% five-day run in SOXX. A vague communiqué would leave that run with nothing new behind it.
- Qualcomm Snapdragon Summit, September 22 to 24, and Meta Connect, September 23 to 24. Qualcomm rose +9.29% and Meta +11.34% on Monday, both ahead of their own events. Details on on-device AI processors and on Meta's agent and glasses hardware will test whether the CPU-led chip rotation has product support. The metaverse fund (METV) enters the week at rank 96.
- Treasury auctions, Tuesday through Thursday (2:00 a.m. KST the following day). Two-year, five-year, and seven-year notes come to market with the 10-year yield at 4.96%. Monday's rally depended partly on that number easing. Weak demand would push yields back toward 5% and test the rebound in the growth funds; firm demand would give them room to keep going.
