💡 Today's US market in three lines
① Today's three stocks: Twist Bioscience · Schrodinger · GRAIL — a DNA maker at a one-year closing high, a drug-discovery software company that turned a quarterly profit, and a cancer-test developer waiting on the FDA.
② On October 5, the S&P 500 rose +0.66% to 7,773.95, the Nasdaq +1.05% to a record close, and the Dow +0.18%. 96 of the 129 ETFs in our universe closed higher, and 10 of the 11 sector SPDRs rose.
③ Genomics stocks rose +3.85% and telemedicine +3.22%, while oil fell -2.29% and homebuilders -1.22%.
Today's Sector Relative Strength (RS)

- The Nasdaq set a record. Health technology led the gains. Oil kept sliding.
- The S&P 500 closed at 7,773.95, up +0.66% or 51.23 points. The Nasdaq gained +1.05%, or 286.45 points, to a record close of 27,477.31. The Dow rose +0.18%, or 90.94 points, to 51,267.90. The Nasdaq-100 fund (QQQ) rose +0.88%, and the Russell 2000 fund (IWM) and the equal-weight S&P 500 fund (RSP) both gained +0.66%. Growth beat value again. The Russell 1000 Growth fund (IWF) rose +1.01% and the Russell 1000 Value fund (IWD) +0.39%.
- Breadth stayed broad: 96 of the 129 funds in our universe closed higher, 32 closed lower, and one was flat. Materials (+1.31%) led the sector SPDRs, followed by communication services (+1.17%) and energy (+1.00%). Real estate was the only sector to fall, by -0.34%. Energy stocks rose even as crude dropped, because oilfield service companies rallied.
- The ISM services index for September came in at 54.9, down from 55.4 and below the 55.7 economists expected. The prices-paid index rose to 74.0 from 72.6. The 10-year Treasury yield added three basis points to 5.31%, near its highest level in about 20 years. Stocks rose anyway. Friday's weak jobs report still keeps traders from betting on an October rate hike.
Today's Leading Sectors TOP 5
- Basis: top 5 by 1-month RS rank on the 'Sector RS (US)' sheet — 129-ETF universe, October 5, 2026. Genomics and AI chips tie at 96; genomics is listed. Daily moves are measured from Yahoo closing prices. Trend columns compare price to its 1-month, 1-quarter, and 1-year moving averages.
| ETF | 1-Day | RS Rank 1M | Short-Term | Mid-Term | Long-Term |
| Roundhill Meme Stock (MEME) | +0.97% | 99 | 🔺 | 🔺 | 🔺 |
| iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) | +0.10% | 99 | 🔺 | 🔺 | 🔺 |

| VanEck Semiconductor (SMH) | +0.52% | 97 | 🔺 | 🔺 | 🔺 |
| Global X Genomics & Biotechnology (GNOM) | +3.85% | 96 | 🔺 | 🔺 | 🔺 |
- All five leaders rose, and all five trade above their 1-month, 1-quarter, and 1-year averages. The chip funds barely moved, though. SOXX added just +0.10%. Genomics did the heavy lifting at +3.85%. Over one month, SOXX leads our universe at +17.39%, and the meme-stock fund is second at +16.41%. Oil fell out of the top five. USO now ranks 90 on the sheet.
Why They're Strong — Sector Issues

· Chips (SOXX · SMHX · SMH) — The iShares semiconductor fund rose +0.10%, fabless chips +0.54%, and VanEck's semiconductor fund +0.52%. Nvidia gained +2.12% to a record close of $238.90, above its May 14 high. Broadcom rose +2.08% and TSMC +2.75%. TSMC touched a record during the session on reports of talks with Elon Musk's Terafab chip factory. Intel fell -2.63%, Micron -1.02%, and AMD -0.34%. Those three are large SOXX holdings, which kept the fund flat. SOXX is up +5.12% over five sessions.

· Meme stocks (MEME) — Roundhill's meme-stock fund rose +0.97%. Its holdings went both ways. Applied Optoelectronics, the largest, gained +5.17%, and Moderna added +6.95%. Nebius fell -4.22% and IREN -3.07%. The fund is up +7.02% over five sessions, the best five-day run among the leaders.

· Genomics (GNOM) — Global X's genomics fund jumped +3.85%, its best day among the 129 funds. Twist Bioscience, its second-largest holding, rose +8.66%. Illumina gained +7.56%, Moderna +6.95%, Guardant Health +5.30%, and 10x Genomics +4.53%. Drug news added fuel across biotech. Vaxcyte surged +30.70% after late-stage vaccine trial results. Genmab rose +10.73% on lymphoma drug data. GNOM is up +11.28% over one month.
1-Month RS Trend

- The 45-day chart tracks genomics, telemedicine, oil services, crude oil, and drug makers. Genomics (GNOM) sat at 16 on August 3, peaked at 99 on September 17, and holds at 95. Telemedicine (HEAL) peaked at 93 on August 20 and is back at 74. Oil services (OIH) fell from 89 to 5 on October 1 and has bounced to 19. Crude oil (USO) dropped from 100 to 9 in late August, climbed back to the top, and has now slipped to 78. iShares' pharmaceuticals fund (IHE) went from 75 on September 28 to 29.
RS Breakdown Warnings (big 5-day drops)
· iShares U.S. pharmaceuticals (IHE) fell -46 points in five sessions, from 75 to 29. VanEck's agribusiness fund (MOO) lost -45 points, VanEck's pharmaceuticals fund (PPH) -43, the health care SPDR (XLV) -29, and crude oil (USO) -22.
· Big drug makers lagged the rally. IHE is down -4.82% over five sessions and PPH -3.47%. Money moved from large pharma into smaller genomics and biotech names. We left out farm-tech and blockchain funds, because their sheet ranks disagree with our five-day calculation.
RS Rebound Signals (sharp bounces off the bottom)
· First Trust industrial renaissance (AIRR) rebounded +44 points in five sessions, from 23 to 67. Global X copper miners (COPX) gained +29 points, iShares transportation (IYT) +26, Global X e-commerce (EBIZ) +24, and Range's nuclear fund (NUKZ) +22.
· Prices rose only a little. AIRR is up +2.40% over five sessions, and IYT +0.99%. These funds climbed the ranking mostly because oil, farm, and drug funds fell faster.
Today's Top Rising Sectors TOP 5 (by 1-day %)
- Basis: top 5 by October 5 closing move — 96 of 129 rose on the day. RS ranks from the 'Sector RS (US)' sheet.
| ETF | 1-Day | RS Rank 1M | Short-Term | Mid-Term | Long-Term |
| Global X Genomics & Biotechnology (GNOM) | +3.85% | 96 | 🔺 | 🔺 | 🔺 |
| Global X Telemedicine & Digital Health (HEAL) | +3.22% | 75 | 🔺 | 🔺 | 🔺 |
| VanEck Oil Services (OIH) | +3.14% | 19 | 🔽 | 🔽 | 🔺 |
| iShares U.S. Oil Equipment & Services (IEZ) | +2.69% | 8 | 🔽 | 🔽 | 🔺 |
| Global X FinTech (FINX) | +2.51% | 22 | 🔽 | 🔽 | 🔽 |
- Health technology took the top two spots. In HEAL, Tempus AI jumped +9.03%, Oscar Health +4.78%, and Veeva +3.70%. Oil services came next, though OIH and IEZ still rank near the bottom. Fintech rose on Brazil. Nu Holdings surged +13.03% after Flávio Bolsonaro edged ahead of President Lula in the first round of Brazil's election. FINX trades below all three averages.
Why They Rose — Sector Issues

· Oil services (OIH · IEZ) — VanEck's oil services fund rose +3.14%, and iShares' oil equipment fund +2.69%. SLB, the largest holding, gained +3.16%, Baker Hughes +2.46%, and Halliburton +2.92%. Offshore drillers did better. Transocean rose +6.58% and Noble +4.55%. The gains came as crude fell. WTI futures lost -1.99% to $89.30 a barrel, and the oil fund (USO) fell -2.29%. We found no single headline for the rebound. OIH's rank had sunk to 5 on October 1, so this looks like buyers stepping back in after a long slide. OIH is still down -8.17% over one month.
Leading Sectors: Genomics, Health Tech, Chips
- ① Rates did not stop the rally. The 10-year yield rose to 5.31%, and the ISM prices index climbed to 74.0. Stocks still rose. A weak jobs report on Friday lowered the odds of an October hike, and investors focused on that.
- ② The money went to genomics and health technology. These are smaller, higher-risk names. Big pharma did not join in. The iShares pharmaceuticals fund slipped -0.44%, while genomics jumped +3.85%. That gap shows investors chasing growth stories, not steady earnings.
- ③ Oil is losing its lead. USO fell -2.29% and is down -4.01% over five sessions. Its sheet rank has dropped from 100 to 90. Homebuilders kept falling as well. Lennar dropped -6.73%, and the iShares homebuilders fund (ITB) fell -1.22% with a rank of 10.
- ④ The last report covered the October 2 close. Its three picks, measured from that close to Monday's: MACOM +2.08%, Teradyne -1.00%, and Hewlett Packard Enterprise -1.40%. The S&P 500 rose +0.66% over the same session. MACOM beat the index, and Teradyne and HPE trailed it. Recorded as is.

Twist Bioscience (TWST) — 1-Month RS 100: DNA for AI Drug Discovery

| RS 1D | RS 5D | RS 1M | 1M Return | Held By |
| 99 | 98 | 100 | +59.3% | Global X Genomics & Biotechnology · SPDR S&P Biotech · iShares Biotechnology |
- Up +8.66% to $205.00, a one-year closing high, and +14.14% over five sessions. Twist makes synthetic DNA on silicon chips. Drug developers, researchers, and diagnostics labs use it. In mid-September it signed a deal to supply antibody data and lab services to TuneLab, Eli Lilly's AI drug discovery platform. Guggenheim also more than doubled its price target to $212 from $107. We found no new company news on Monday, so the gain came with the genomics rally. For the quarter ended June 30, revenue rose +23.2% to $118.4 million from $96.1 million. The operating loss widened to $36.3 million from $30.1 million. The net loss was $35.1 million, or $0.56 a share, against net income of $20.4 million a year earlier. The stock is up about 546% this year. The Twist Bioscience stock forecast depends on whether AI drug deals turn into steady revenue growth.
Schrodinger (SDGR) — 1-Month RS 100: From Software to New Drug Companies

| RS 1D | RS 5D | RS 1M | 1M Return | Held By |
| 99 | 96 | 100 | +57.4% | Global X Telemedicine & Digital Health |
- Up +7.56% to $32.60, a one-year closing high, and +10.51% over five sessions. Schrodinger sells physics-based software that drug makers use to design molecules. It also runs its own drug programs. On September 9 it announced Tectora Therapeutics, a new company it co-founded with NEA and RA Capital. Schrodinger handed over two early-stage programs in exchange for an equity stake, milestone payments, and royalties. Monday's gain came with the health-tech rally. We found no new company announcement. For the quarter ended June 30, revenue rose +7.5% to $58.9 million from $54.8 million. The operating loss narrowed to $41.5 million from $52.9 million. Net income was $6.0 million, or $0.08 a share, against a loss of $43.2 million. That profit came from items outside operations, since the business itself still lost money. The stock is up about 82% this year. The Schrodinger stock forecast rests on whether partner deals like Tectora keep adding value.
GRAIL (GRAL) — 1-Month RS 100: A Cancer Blood Test Nears Approval

| RS 1D | RS 5D | RS 1M | 1M Return | Held By |
| 99 | 99 | 100 | +91.1% | SPDR S&P Biotech |
- Up +7.55% to $154.08, a one-year closing high, and +16.17% over five sessions. GRAIL makes Galleri, a blood test that screens for more than 50 types of cancer. An FDA advisory panel voted 7-2 that the test's benefits outweigh its risks. The panel voted 6-4 on effectiveness and unanimously on safety. The vote is not binding, and the FDA has not yet made a final decision. Monday's gain extended last week's run. For the quarter ended June 30, revenue rose +25.7% to $44.7 million from $35.5 million. The operating loss widened to $173.8 million from $158.9 million. The net loss was $110.2 million, or $2.56 a share. The stock is up about 80% this year. The GRAIL stock forecast depends on the FDA's final decision and on whether insurers agree to pay for the test.
Twist Bioscience · Schrodinger · GRAIL Stock Forecast Checkpoints
· Twist Bioscience stock forecast — The stock is close to Guggenheim's target already. Watch whether it clears $212. A close back under $188.67, Friday's level, would erase Monday's jump.
· Schrodinger stock forecast — The stock closed at a one-year high. Watch whether it holds above $30.31, Friday's close. A +57.4% one-month run leaves room for a pullback.
· GRAIL stock forecast — The stock is up +91.1% in one month ahead of the FDA ruling. Watch whether it holds above $143.26, Friday's close. A delay or a weak label could reverse the run quickly.
What to Watch on Next Week's Calendar
- 10-year Treasury auction and FOMC minutes, Thursday October 8 (2:00 a.m. and 3:00 a.m. KST). The 10-year yield closed at 5.31%, and the ISM prices index rose to 74.0. Weak demand at the auction would push yields higher. The minutes show how many officials favored more hikes.
- Samsung Electronics preliminary third-quarter results and TSMC September sales, Thursday October 8. Both are early reads on memory and chip demand. Chip funds hold the top of the ranking, but SOXX rose only +0.10% on Monday. Strong numbers would give the group a fresh push.
- 30-year Treasury auction, Friday October 9 (2:00 a.m. KST). Long-term yields feed into mortgage rates. Homebuilders (ITB) rank only 10 and fell -1.22% on Monday. A weak auction would add to the pressure.
