Leading Sectors: Health Care, Consumer Staples, Pharmaceuticals

  • ① Health care took the lead. The health care SPDR rose +2.53%, and the insurer fund IHF is up +4.31% over five sessions. Insurers and drug makers rose together. When both rise at once, the reason is usually the market, not a single drug or contract.
  • ② Staples followed. Grocers, discount stores, and drink makers all rose. These companies sell things people buy in any economy. Investors favored them after a hot inflation report.
  • ③ Chips and banks took the hit. Nvidia fell -3.16%, AMD -5.73%, Micron -4.10%, and Broadcom -3.10%. ASML reported record quarterly sales and still dropped -3.94%. SOXX is down -10.88% over five sessions. Bank of America fell -4.76% after reports said a $1.2 billion regulatory charge cut its quarterly profit. Morgan Stanley lost -2.75%. The silver fund SLV dropped -6.11%.
  • ④ The last report covered the October 13 close. Its three picks, measured from that close to Wednesday's: HF Sinclair -0.42%, Delek US -2.20%, and Cracker Barrel +2.40%. The S&P 500 fell -1.11% over the same session. Two of three beat the index. HF Sinclair held its $122.91 checkpoint at $127.69. Delek US did not close above $81.55. Cracker Barrel held $59.04 and set a new one-year closing high at $62.72. Recorded as is.

McKesson · Humana · United Natural Foods Stock Forecast Checkpoints

· McKesson stock forecast — The stock is about 1.9% below its high. Watch whether it closes above $995.69, the March 3 closing high. A close above it would mark a breakout.

· Humana stock forecast — The stock is up +7.79% in five sessions. Watch whether it closes above $433.50, the October 12 closing high. Falling back below $420 would undo Wednesday's gain.

· United Natural Foods stock forecast — The stock is up +9.38% in five sessions. Watch whether it holds above $45.79, Tuesday's close. Losing that level would erase Wednesday's jump.

What to Watch on Next Week's Calendar

  • Abbott and Thermo Fisher results, Wednesday October 21 (9:00 p.m. KST). Intuitive Surgical reports first, on Wednesday at 5:00 a.m. KST. XLV now ranks 90 on the sheet. These reports will show whether the health care move has earnings behind it.
  • Meta and Tesla results, Thursday October 22 (5:00 a.m. KST). Lam Research and Texas Instruments report at the same time. These will be the first big tech reports since the CPI shock, and growth stocks led Wednesday's decline.
